Work continues on the community nursery and everything is growing well. We have been keeping busy and fealing better mentally and physically. Most of the work has been to transplant the nearly 1500 cypress trees from the seedbed into bags. The students have learned how to do this pretty quickly and so far we have a 100% survival rate for the ones that have already been transplanted. Interest is also growing in the community. As many community members are planting small coffee nurseries to expand their production, the trees will serve them well as green fertilizers and natural shade as the coffee seedlings grow. It’s satisfying to see the slow increase in the people’s interest in the project. Every few days we get to talk to people about the trees, answering questions and learning from others. It’s also nice to know that at this point the nursery will at least be maintained when we are not around. We are currently traveling a bit with Martin Hutchison (our minister at Community of Joy Church of the Brethren) and his dad John Earl after their visit to U.V. We also hope to visit Quiche next week where many of the students from the community are studying. We will have more photos up soon but here are some photos of the progress in the nursery so far.
